Nassau County, Fla. — Two people from Yulee died and two others were injured in a crash Thursday morning on Interstate 95 in Nassau County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The two vehicles collided on I-95 northbound south of U.S. Highway 17 at about 9:45 a.m., police said.
According to the Highway Patrol, a Ford sedan was traveling north in the center lane of I-95 when, for reasons still under investigation, it abruptly changed lanes and collided with a GMC Sport traveling in the left lane. Side view of utility vehicle.That’s when the sedan spun and hit the center-center guardrail, police said.The SUV was parked on the right side of I-95 North, officers said.
The driver of the vehicle, an 81-year-old Yulee man, died at the scene, according to the Highway Patrol.The occupant of the car was an 85-year-old Yulee woman who died after being taken to the hospital, police said.
The SUV driver, a 77-year-old Dunnellon woman, and the SUV passenger, an 84-year-old Dunnellon man, were taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to the FHP.
All northbound lanes of I-95 in the area were blocked for about two and a half hours, but reopened after 12:30 p.m.
The driver was asked to use an alternate route and police suggested a detour from I-95 northbound to State Route 200 East to US 17 North to I-95 North.At one point, there was also traffic on the right shoulder.

Police are investigating.They initially said initial investigations showed three vehicles were involved in the accident, but later they said only two were involved.
